Rekommissionierung

Rekommissionierung is the structured recommissioning process that returns a laid-up vehicle to road-ready condition in German vehicle storage practice. It is the counterpart to putting a car into storage. A proper recommissioning is a checklist, not a jump start: battery tested and charged or replaced, tyre pressures reset and tyres inspected for flat spots and age cracking, brake discs and pads checked for standing corrosion, fluid levels and condition verified, fuel assessed, belts and hoses inspected, the underbody checked for rodent damage, lights and electronics function-tested, and the car then driven a short distance to bring the brakes and drivetrain back to temperature. If the HU has lapsed during the lay-up, the inspection has to be re-passed before the car is used on public roads, and if the registration was suspended, it has to be reinstated at the Zulassungsstelle. For a seasonal or long-stored vehicle, budgeting for recommissioning is part of the true cost of storage: the monthly rate for a cheap outdoor space rarely includes any of it, while managed indoor storage usually does.
