Legal basis and limits
- Model A — company as keeper
- The UG is entered as Halter (registered keeper) in the Fahrzeugbrief. The client remains legal owner (Eigentümer) through the purchase contract. Typical timeline: ~5 business days.
- Model B — own-name registration
- The client is entered as Halter in their own name using apostilled ID, a notarised power of attorney and proof of foreign residency. Typical timeline: 7–14 business days.
- Keeper liability
- Under § 7 StVG strict liability attaches to the registered keeper, which is why compulsory liability insurance is issued in the keeper's name. Moving-traffic offences follow the identified driver.
- Residency
- Registration through either model does not create German residence, German tax residence or any right of residence. It is a vehicle-registration arrangement only.
